Motorcycles & Bikers

History of Bikes :

Motorcycle history began in the 19th century. The idea or machine that led to the creation of the motorcycle cannot be narrowed down to one idea or creator. It became popular to a number of engineers and inventors in Europe pretty much all at the same time. The Germans created a motorized bicycle in the 1800s called the Reitwagen (riding carriage). This is the first petroleum powered vehicle made. Their original focus was to create a carriage for the engine. So that may be one of the first dirt bikes made. If Steam counts Americans created a steam propulsion bike, this was displayed at fairs and circuses. The French also created a similar steam powered bike around the same time. In the late 1880s the motorcycles were introduced more to the public throughout Europe, France, Germany and United States. An American inventor named E.J. Pennington credited his two wheeled machine with the term "motor cycle". Since the 1880 there has been numerous prototypes, advances, and manufactures.

Triumph and Harley Davidson :

Triumph in 1902 produced its first motorcycle and in 1903, soon after, they were made public and sales topped to 500. Harley Davidson followed right behind. Today Harley Davidson has become one of the most popular Bike brands. Every Biker would love to ride a Harley if they don't already own one. In 1904 an American company known as the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company had sales in the 500s annually. Then in 1913 sales boomed to 32,000. Continuing improvements in 1923 BMW Motorcycles were introduced and featured a shaft drive with an opposite twin or “boxer” engine with an enclosed transmission. By the 1930s there were over 80 different makes of motorcycles just in Britain. During the 1950s the Japanese mass produced the motor bikes for much cheaper and began dominating the market. By the 1960s motorcycle shifted from practical transportation to a leisure activity and many could be found riding them.

Motorcycles and Sports :

Motorcycle racing is a sport involving racing motorcycles. Motorcycle racing is divided into two categories, tarmac-based road disciplines and off road. Track racing is a motorcycle sport where teams or individuals race their opponents around an oval track. Rallys are a navigation event on public roads where competitors must visit a number of checkpoints in different geographical locations. Land speeds involve a single rider that accelerates over a 1 to 3 mile long straight track and is timed for top speeds through a trap at the end of the run. This rider must exceed the previous top speed record for that class or type of bike for their name to be placed with the record books. Freestyle Motocrossers is a competition based upon points for acrobatic abilities on a motorcross bike over jumps. Trials are a test of skills on a motorcycle where the rider attempts to maneuver an observed section without placing a foot on the ground. The winner is the rider with the least penalty. Every Biker tends to have the need for speed while riding their motorcycle.
